Storyboarding
Creating a roadmap for project completion
Story Boarding is a pictorial outline of main ideas, sub topics and story details. This is best accomplished on a white board, poster board or other material which can be mounted on a wall. The idea is to create a pictorial account of how your story is going to unfold and flow. This will aid you in building your final outline. The board gives you a chance to answer questions the reader might have. Your book will be more organized, focused, clear and easier to read.
Using different color dry erase markers for each category or heading post the following:
- Title at the top
- Thesis directly underneath
- Main Chapter Headers in the first primary row – Begin with the main points as headers.
- Secondary Headers placed under the main headers.
- Content – Add abbreviation for completed content or content yet to be written.
Keywords can be listed off to the side or at the bottom –keywords help you define your project (target audience/genre) and get you thinking about potential audiences to reach.
Don’t worry if your chapter headings, sub headings and/or points are in order. Once you post all the information, step back and rearrange each. This allows you step back and see your story unfold.
The concept was thought to have originally been used by Leonardo Di Vinci. Walt Disney used the concept on all of his projects.
