Sally Salas was raised in the midst of inner city ministry in gang infested East Dallas, living among and living with Hispanic gangsters who were meeting Jesus and trying to get off the streets and change their lives. She graduated from the University of Houston, majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Education, and has taught English, Reading and English as a Second Language in low income, mostly Hispanic, Title I schools since 2000. She is passionate about instilling confidence and self worth in her students, watching them realize they are smart and capable, in charge of how hard they work and what they make of themselves. She fiercely loves and advocates for them, cheering them on long after they leave her classroom.
Sally has a great love for the Hispanic culture, and hasn’t quite given up on the idea of moving to a Spanish speaking country to ensure that her two half Mexican children turn out bilingual! On a free day, she would most like to be lost in a corner of a coffee shop with fabulous pages to read, and blank pages to write.
