Unbelievable
A Guidebook for Receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
By Ryan Sanders
We need to have better conversations about belief. American Christians live in a post-Christian age, but we don’t talk like it. We have to change the way we talk about Jesus. According to 2016 research by the Barna Group, forty-five percent of religiously unaffiliated Americans agree with the statement, “Christianity is extremist.” Our neighbors are not only unfamiliar with our beliefs, they are offended by them. The best way to start meaningful conversations about belief is to walk a mile in an unbeliever’s shoes. We need to hear ourselves from our culture’s perspective. We need to remove the layers of familiarity that have built up around our beliefs and ask ourselves how they sound to people who have never been to Vacation Bible School. The best place to start conversations about belief is from a place of shared disbelief. The best thing we can do to defend our beliefs is to admit that they’re unbelievable.
A big heart does a writer no good unless they can find a way to bleed onto the page. Luckily, Ryan Sanders doesn’t hold back. If you want a heartless book filled with logical, linear arguments, ask your mom to hunt for one of your old math texts from your school days. But if you want a book brimming with passion for the faith-filled life, try Unbelievable instead. I dare you not to enjoy this heartfelt book.
